ARTIST : Ubanoo Brown - Born 1960, comes from the Murchison River area of Western Australia. He loves to paint. As a young boy he would rather paint pictures than hunt. His time was spent drawing on rock using precious ochres.
This painting tells the story how Ubanoo's Grandfather, represented by the large hand in the left hand corner, taught him as a young man going into manhood, how to hunt the Australian animals and survive in the Desert land. He was taught how to track the animals when they come to drink from known waterholes and how to follow their tracks & droppings. After tracking the emus to their nests they kill the emus for meat & gather their eggs, which are a great source of protein. The Aboriginal symbols depict Aboriginal hunters with their spears, killer boomerangs & shields hunting bush animals in their homelands.
